The Architecture: Distributed Origin
Traditional CDN’s operate using a single Origin server, wherein the master content is ingested and stored in a single location. It then relies on thousands of edge servers which are located near the end users to deliver the content. The content is pushed from the Origin server to the edge via public IP networks each time a new content is ingested. Recursive DNS lookup is required to locate the closest edge server. This results in sub-optimal delivery performance.
To overcome these delivery issues, Tata Communications build the CDN service from the ground-up. By building CDN nodes, a collection of multiple origin servers, on our Global IP backbone, the architecture ensures every CDN node becoming an identical content origin point. In other words, once the content is ingested to the closest CDN node, the content will be automatically replicated to other CDN nodes via our Global IP backbone. This replication feature relies on BitGravity’s underlying technology, which consists of systematically replicating any ingested content. The idea behind this strong design pattern is to eliminate any boundaries imposed by the legacy edge-caching model. No cache-miss, no latency in modifying your content the entire CDN platform was designed for usage closest to a global file system.
